ON THE ROAD PART XV: WINDSOR RUINS

The Windsor Ruins are just off Rodney Road, a windy residential street tucked away in the Mississippi delta. They were not easy to find, up until we saw them we were nearly convinced we were going to wrong way. As we pulled up a car was driving off, leaving us the site to ourselves. It was perfect, the sun was just going down and I was able to enjoy the short walk around the columns, thinking what a shame that the no doubt beautiful house that once stood there burned down in 1890 from cigar ash... after having survived the damn Civil War.
