ON THE ROAD PART XVI: EVERGREEN PLANTATION

Because of my love for Gone With the Wind, plantation homes were high on my priority list. However because of the traumatic and violent part they played in American history, it was a bittersweet moment. It is impossible to appreciate the beauty of these homes without realising what they stood for, thankfully Evergreen didn't make it hard. Barracks were intact and part of the tour, a painful reminder of the bloody past.
Now the house... it was actually not as grand as I had imagined a plantation home to be. I had imagined Tara or Twelve Oaks, but it was much more modest, which is actually how many Creole families chose to live in Louisiana. To see the home of Scarlett I would have to wait until the next stop.
